Job description

My client, a leading company in the analysis, inspection, and consultancy to the metals, mineral, agriculture, and environmental industries are seeking a highly motivated and personable chemistry graduate with a strong interest in IT to join their team as a Lab Systems (LIMS) Implementation Analyst. This position will be responsible for the specification, design, implementation, and user training of their laboratory systems across a variety of industries including metal/mineral testing and agricultural/environmental science. 

 

Working as part of a small but close-knit team, the successful candidate will be offered comprehensive training in the business analysis, design and implementation processes for the LIMS solution, and will then be responsible for supporting customers worldwide on their projects; predominantly remotely from the Liverpool office but supplemented by occasional customer site visits at worldwide locations which can range from 1-6 weeks in duration. 

 

Being a customer facing position, excellent communication skills and customer facing manner are essential for this role, along with experience and knowledge in chemistry and lab environments. A strong interest in IT and the intersection of technology with science, as well as a desire to learn and develop within this space is also important, as is being adventurous and willing to undertake travel to remote locations such as Bolivia, Malaysia and more.  

The LIMS/Laboratory Systems Implementation Analyst will:

  • Coordinate with customers to understand their requirements and work with the technical team to configure the software to meet their needs. 
  • Coordinate with customers on user acceptance testing of configuration elements, validating the software build. 
  • Create training material and provide training to users. 
  • Identify and assist to resolve all technical issues eciently, and perform tests on all hardware/software elements and peripherals. 
  • Administer setup of systems according to specifications and ensure the systems are in synchronisation with customer requirements. 
  • Collaborate with various teams to validate system processes and workflow. 
  • Prepare and provide demonstrations of software. 
  • Support the technical lead in providing implementation estimates and project plans. 
  • Research and test o the shelf applications, as part of the vendor onboarding process. 
  • Monitor software vendor performance continuously, reporting on performance to the IT management team. 
  • Collate and maintain standard implementation packages in collaboration with the product support team, with adequate training materials and implementation guides. 
  • Keep up to date with software changes, learning new features and system processes. 
  • Support with software deployment, executing upgrades where required. 
  • This role may involve travel to both UK and overseas sites to assist with system implementations and training. Trips would be between a few days and up to 6 weeks in duration and paid for entirely by the company. 

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or above, preferably in chemistry 
  • Familiarity with a laboratory environment and associated process, particularly the function of IT/LIMS applications 
  • Any technical skills in SQL or software development/scripting will be viewed highly favourably, as will any exposure to system implementation or technical support 
  •    Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. 
  •    Analytical mindset with ability to resolve complex business problems with excellent user outcomes. 
  •    Comfortable demonstrating software processes to potentially large audiences and senior management. 
  •    User focussed, with the ability to build eective relationships with stakeholders and champion user needs. 
  •    Accountable, taking ownership of the implementation of configuration specifications and technical issues. 
  • Eective communication of business change and processes. 
  • Additional language skills such as Spanish, while not essential, will be viewed favourably.
